Toruk to Tyrant – 2012 Year in Review

Toruk to Tyrant – Year in Review

Overview

2012 was a fun year for me playing Skorne.   I managed to play an amazing amount of games during the year and managed to not fail too badly.   At the tale end of the year I did get a bit burned out by them, but that was my fault for not taking a bit of a mid year break like I have been doing over the past couple years.

I really look forward to the future and more time with Skorne. I believe the next Hordes book is going to have some different option for skorne players. As long as I feel I can bring a variety of models I will always enjoy the faction.

Random stats

  • I played 87 tournament games and 87 friendly games. (odd that it came out so even)
  • I won 69% of my tournament games.
  • Won Highest % of games with Rasheth in Tournaments.  83% win ratio (losses only came at tale end of the year when I tried some out of theme force lists)
  • Played Zaal  most in tournaments - 37 tournament games and won 73% of my games.
  • Most games played was with Zaal – 65 games, Rasheth came in 2nd with 27 games.

Achievements of 2012

I did manage to win a hardcore event at Diecon in 2012 with Zaal. I was very excited about that. I also won 3 local events using a variety of Skorne warlocks .   I did not attend/play in nearly as many “big con” events as 2011, but I still managed to have a ton of fun and play a lot of games.   I did a decent job in the first half of the year playing a variety of warlocks, and in the second half the year I played mostly Rasheth and Zaal.   I did a good job of keeping my army full painted during the entire year as well.

The future

For 2013 I plan on returning to Cryx for a majority of the year, but I will take some breaks every few months to bring out my skorne. I’m excited for the upcoming book, and some of the new models that are coming out. I hope that Makeda3 will be fun to play.   I don’t think I’ll post any Cryx Reports though.  For some reason, people never find a players journey with Cryx that exciting, and due to some random life choices I may not make hardly any big cons in 2013.

Also  I plan on using this in 2013, and maybe (just maybe) the Mammoth.

I have played Warmachine since 2004. Before that I have played warhammer fantasy for ten years, but I stopped playing Fantasy shortly after starting warmachine. I enjoy every aspect of the hobby. I love competive play, as well as just playing fun goofy lists on casual game night at our local game store. I also spent a good chunk of my free time working on making terrain for our events our local gamestores. I mainly play Skorne and Cryx, but I do own a small gatorman minion force that I have fun playing. Brian "carnage4u" Giese

Thanks for all the articles, they were great! I can hardly wait for the Mammoth and the Willbreaker – I’m going to be feeling downright Cryxian!

I’m all for changing the game up, but the way the Colossals are going to be trubloe for Cryx, especially the Stormwall, I was a bit sad about it. However, I’ve had a few weeks to think about the stuff coming out, and it doesn’t seem that Cryx is going to have all that much trubloe with them.As you yourself stated, pShade is getting another shot at being competitive, I think. Mage Blight and Shadowmancer are getting a huge surge in value, and this far Goreshade is the only one to have either one of them. Soul Gate can actually also come in handy. Just bring a single Scrap Thrall or two, and you can get two alpha strikes onto a Colossal with your heavy hitter. This could for example be Deathjack.
