Marvel Universe Miniatures Game
« on: February 20, 2016, 09:42:58 PM »
Looks like the people behind the Batman minis game have one coming out for Marvel:

http://knightmodels-store.com/epages/afaa2a23-c31d-4ae6-b1cd-12757513fd3b.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/afaa2a23-c31d-4ae6-b1cd-12757513fd3b/Categories/%22MARVEL%20UNIVERSE%20MINIATURE%20GAME%22

It looks interesting, but it's hot off the presses so I have not seen any reviews or actual plays.  I like the idea that your team is all named characters.  Apparently each character has a power level and you build your list by adding up the member's power levels to get to the agreed cap for the game.  ie. Wolverine[8], Rogue[8], Cyclops[7] and Colossus[7] will add up to a power 30 team.

Apparently the power levels range between 4 and 20, so it should cater for quite a range of the Marvel Universe, up to and including things like Galactus and Thanos.

I'm really hoping they'll do some new ideas - some of those cosmic level threats would make for great co-op battle opportunities - lets take on Galactus with the Avengers teaming up with the Guardians of the Glaxy for example. Kinda like the WoWTCG raids back in the day.

The highest power I've seen so far is 12(Thor), so there's lots of room to grow.

I would love to see some of these minis in the same picture as other minis.  They're 35mm scale as opposed to 28mm or "heroic" 28mm.

The ones for Batman miniatures game are in the same scale, and aren't all that much bigger, I'll try and do some side by side comparison pics at some point

I like the lower point scale.  I really don't care for the extra sig fig in the Batman game, where you're trying to combine 22 and 16 and 127 point models into something that fits.

That said, it will take quite a few models to get over 9000.

There, its been said and we can move on with our lives. 8)

I greatly prefer Marvel IP's to DC as a general rule, although Batman is absolutely in my top 3 favorite super heroes of all time.  However, I kind of like the "patsy's" in the Batman game.  I'm not sure how I feel about playing all named, important heroes in Marvel.  Marvel also looks to be a bit more complicated, which is not a bad thing, and it'll probably be more polished, but I'm not sure how much complexity (personally) I'm looking for in my 2nd mini's game.

Interested to see where this goes though.

If you like the look of the Batman game (ie. with mooks), there is a Spiderman version coming out.

I did a little photoshopping to get this:

Sorscha and Batman are both on 30mm bases.

Hulk is on a 40mm base(!) and the Juggernaut is of course 50mm

A German site got an early copy and has put up a review (in English).http://www.magabotato.de/blog/item/breaking-reviews-marvel-universe-miniature-game-english

Highlights for me:
- only a 32 page rulebook
- 2d8 for rolls; can be boosted (+1d8)
- crits are two matching results on the roll; you get the crit effect for the attack and +1 damage
- the reviewer says there is a huge list of powers
- terrain is destructible and/or throwable
- LoS is cylinders based on base size + models height

Looks really good so far!

Necro hurray!

I actually tried this game with a friend yesterday.

It was really fun, felt like each character was worth their points and had a use.

I really liked how the flying guys actually felt fast and mobile. I also feel like they captured the feel of the characters.

Played Avengers starter vs guardians. Thor and Iron man flew around dishing out the pain, and black widow/Captain america were accomplishing objective and doing a ton of tactical stuff.

Throwing building around with Thor was really fun.
Rocket climbing on walls and sniping people was pretty cool as well.

I also like the flavour of the damage for instance as Ironman gets damaged he really loses effectiveness near the end he has penalties to defense and cannot fly (because his suit is being destroyed). whereas Captain America actually gains some bonuses when he is about half health (to represent his endurance and resolve), then gets negatives when almost dead.

Also based on the models out looks like a normal size game will net 6-7 models depending on costs.

Anyone who has played warmachine or guildball will jump into it very easily

Edit: I also liked how some powers had overload abilities, but you couldn't combine those with the "boost", so it gives an interesting choice of do I want to make this attack more accurate? or make it an AEO, or more damage, or stun them (depending on the power)

Is Spidey going to be in this game or get his own game?  If it is his own game, will it be compatible?  He would be the main reason I'd be interested in this game.

This game definitely intrigues me, if nothing else its cool to see some of those models out there.  The part that currently seems difficult to me is where do you get a cityscape-worth of terrain?

Spidey currently has his own "street-level" game.  The current Spidey game isn't compatible with the Marvel Universe game but it is compatible with the Batman game (I think).  I'd be surprised if Spiderman didn't show up in the Marvel game, but I don't know that for sure.

I've seen some nice boards that were outside environments.  So long as you have discrete terrain (as opposed to Area Terrain, meaning individual trees instead of "this area is full of trees"), you could use any environment you want.  You could also use any Infinity terrain you have lying around.  But, yeah; you're going to need terrain to play it well.

I don't think the Spidey games is compatible with Batman.  Apparently both Marvel and DC put it in the licenses that their game couldn't be compatible with the other one.

From what I hear, they're going to make the Spider-man stuff compatible with the Marvel Game starting as wave 3.

I recall that DC/Marvel didn't want things to be compatible, but from my cursory looking at the model stats, Batman and Spiderman look compatible.  I'm not an expert in either game.

I would be Amazed if they didn't have Spiderman in the MUMG.

They announced that spidey will be converted into the MCU game and the spiderman game will continue but slowly. (it's in their official FAQ)

For the terrain we had a bunch from infinity, but I've seen people print out papercraft terrain on card stock and it worked well. Its less terrain than I thought we would need since its a 3x3 board.

I have basically quit Warmachine for this game and I'm loving it! The game really makes you feel like you're playing these heroes!
How I feel when asked for my opinion on Skorne.

Figured I would post some updates for people who may have been watching this game. Knight Models just released a huge update and a few changes have happened:

They re balanced some rules and characters
DC universe game has been released and it compatible with Marvel, so you can do some superman vs hulk type things
They created cards for the villains and heroes from the batman miniatures games so they have rules for both game snow.
They updated some marvel guys now as well, like green goblin, spider etc...

Is anyone here still playing? I've been having a blast with it lately and every game I played seems like it could go anyone's way, haven't run into a team where I felt like I got steamrolled (though my sample size is small)

Waiting for a GLC box now I think

Funny enough the D.C. Rule book is the marvel rule book with a find replace pass. It makes some references to SHIELD and the like.  :-[

Ya they definitely have some editing issues but they seem to address them quickly. the new rules went up on Friday and they address most of the typos and clarifications people asked on facebook by Monday.
They need a proper English editor

My interest has piqued now that Spidey is part of the larger game.  Just gotta find funds and time to get this one into rotation here.
