The road to WTC
« on: May 02, 2014, 05:34:15 PM »
So I've posted my first article in a series I'm entitling road to WTC.

I have no idea if it will be of interest to anyone, but I promised as part of my application to attempt to provide articles and communication with the general community to the best of my ability in order to make everyone feel a part of the WTC effort.

So, if you have any thoughts or comments on the posts, please put those comments here.

I'm aiming to do one article a week, which means it's probably going to be more like one every two weeks.

I dont know exactly what I SHOULD put in these (I dont know if there is anything in particular the wider community would find interesting) so I'm open to suggestions.

I'm going to try to restrict the content to primarily about me, not just because I'm a self-serving, narcissistic egomaniac, but also because I am not sure how much other members of the teams would wish to have written down.

I'm probably going to give up a lot of information about my lists, what they play against etc and I think most of the other team members are looking to protect their lists a bit better than that :)

If you find the article rusty or terrible, I apologize, I'd appreciate any suggestions on what would make it better/more interesting, since I'm committed to writing the bloody things for the "benefit of the community" so if there's something the community would rather I was writing (like poetry or fan-fic for example) then by all means let me know.

* I'm not writing fan-fic for you

If the endnotes leave, so do I.

Not sure how much you're willing to delve into the thought process specifically in choosing a list pair with the WTC format in mind, but it would likely be an interesting way to explore the topic.  While we can't give away any sober tech to our resident Irish drong / hooleys, I think a good focus of the articles would be on the unique nature of the WTC rather than generic list design articles.

What about Kaya1?

A pureblood seems like a way to fish for Tartarus and randomly kill a bunch of other stuff in the process.

A blessed Gheotrix showing up every turn and then disappearing could be a serious long term problem for armor.

She has occultation, but ARM 13 is pretty low.

I love the writing style, the footnotes made me laugh. I even enjoyed the total lack of numerical discipline since it made reading the article kinda a treasure hunt ala. "what have Colin hidden for me behind footnote number 18?". More of these articles please! And more Footnotes!

PS: If you run out of topics please write something about you experience with the servants of Toruk. That could be an interesting read.

thanks all for the positive comments, wierd as it sounds it certainly inspires additional work if people are complimentary :)

That said, are there other things people WANT to see or read about? I guess once I'm a few articles in people might have more of a feel for what they like better.

I'm thinking about trying to get all multi-media in this business also....will have to see how that goes lol.

I enjoyed the article, too! Write all the crazy footnotes you want, dude. One thing I'd be interested to read is your thoughts on the evolution of the top-level metagame. What kind of lists do you expect to face at WTC and how are those different from the lists at last year's?

Also, could you talk about how matchups between teams are decided at WTC, and how that affects your strategy? I recall last year there were some pretty wacky lists which people speculated were there to throw curveballs into the matchup selection process. Are there lists you might expect to see at WTC that you wouldn't see at other top-tier tournaments due to its unique format?

Oh and BTW, congratulations on being picked for the team!

As an eventual Circle player, I look forward to this series of articles. It always seems to go similarly: "List pairings for Circle are easy! It's eMorvahna and Kromac! Though Krueger2 is good too. So its Krueger1. Baldur mixes things up. The Kayas are interesting. I forgot about Cassius and Mohsar, they do weird stuff. Um... Where was I?" Cryx, armor, and ranged assasinations is a weird variety of things to cover in a single list. To some extent, the WTC setup may help with this--if you can't handle the eCaines and Lylyth2s of the world, then the format hypothetically lets you just dodge those matchups outright. Though that can pose problems for the team as a whole.

I love the footnotes. My favorite one was about the Mohsar cup game. Stealth is an excellent rule in the game, but the only thing better than that? Real-world stealth, the sort where your opponent can't see your models or tell them apart from one another. As long as you don't lose track of your models yourself (oh, the unactivated Mage Hunter Assassins that I've seen...).

Second article is up and can be found here:
http://museonminis.com/road-wtc-part-2-electric-boogaloo/

I expect this one will generate some more comments since I feel like it's a lot more ragged than the last one (I rushed it, I'm trying to get down to a target-time per article...which is really really hard for me, I just cant stop tangenting)

Please let me know what you think, comments/suggestions/requests welcome.

Super solid.  Wouldn't change a thing.  Definitely would vote against smaller/more polished articles.
