Looking for a Competitive Cryx Teacher.
« on: June 19, 2012, 03:19:21 PM »
Looking for someone to show me the ways of Cryx and how to use them in a competitive setting.  I would like to get into tournaments as soon as possible but there are not any Cryx players that are competitive players within my meta.

So anyone interested in mentoring me?

First thing I would do is read all of Keiths cryx articles, then Dannys cryx/tourney articles. Then post some lists here, and make a batrep thread where you give us details of how your games go. Then we can critique and problemsolve as a group!

Three steps to building a competitive Cryx army:
1) Buy some Cryx models
2) Put them on the table
3) Play with them.

Congratulations!  You've just alienated your gaming group.

No reason to troll, if it was that easy to be a competitive cryx player why don't they win any tourneys?

they do!

Cryx won The Australian Masters, A 62 Player National Tournament, Oz Highlander Championships Heat 1, Heat 2 of the Australian Super Series, Last heat of the Super Series last year.

That's just a few from recent memory.

Buy 20 Mechanithralls and two Necrosurgeon units.  It would be even better to get 30 Mechanithralls, but that is not required.

No trolling here, just a little fun.  Are you saying that 20 banes is a bad idea? ;)

Austrialian tourneys. :P

I would like to think I am competitive and I almost never run banes.

I agree with chilly, 14 points well spent.

To elaborate on my original post, buy lots of good Cryx infantry (Banes, Satyxis, etc.) - it's the faction's strength.  Most of the time, heavy Cryx jacks (except the Deathjack) are not points efficient when compared to the infantry.  Of course, with the release of Colossals, Cryx lists might have to change to deal with the increase in infantry clearing.

Also, Road to War episode 6 offered a good overview of the faction: http://museonminis.com/road-to-war-episode-6/  /shameless self-promotion/

Is Will any less addicted to Diablo 3 than he was during the Cryx episode? ;)

He's as addicted as ever.  It's actually affecting his Warmachine skillz.

I would agree that the Cryx infantry is amazing, but just because Cryx has good infantry doesn't mean the other things are bad. Cryx has some really good support in sirens and  combine being must have purchases.

Also despite negative endorsements from most people the wraith engine is a really solid heavy hitter for 9 points, much better than the seether. Being able to switch incorporeal on prior to the engagement turn basically guarantees you will be alive the following round to kill stuff.

I don't like the slayer, corruptor, seether, desecrator or erebus. Other than that the cryx arsenal of jacks seems fine.

All the lights are amazing and there's no reason not to have 2-3 of each at some point.

The reaper is much better than the slayer and has its place, harrower is great in general and extremely good with Mortenebra.
Nightmare and Deathjack are both extremely offensively potent and when you prey a heavy with nightmare and drop something like parasite you easily one round just about anything, 5 ps 21s is pretty legit. I personally hate deathjack but he's okay.
Cankerworm is very survivable and mobile. Parry and pathfinder along with some AP can hurt people dead.
Also levithan is really super sweet, burst shot against heavies or cav is really amazing, also using one with mortenebra can pull out some janky assassinations, overrun a jack have it kill something walk the levi into range, mortenebra walks b2b and feat, siren boosts, 3 full boosted guns with rerolls.
